ADULT TRAINING SERVICES
ADULT TRAINING PROGRAM
Provides program assessment and training for adults with disabilities through:
· Habilitation: developing marketable skills through crafts, maintenance, and sub-contract work in order to learn appropriate vocational skills and attitudes.
· Personal awareness: focusing on personal care and appearance, socialization and communication skills, and community awareness.
· Practical Arts: training in meal planning and preparation, and home maintenance skills.
Consumer to staff ratio for this program is 6 to 1.
ADULT TRAINING PROGRAM INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORTS
Within the Adult Training Program a more intensive Individualized Program, provides support, training and community integration to adults with disabilities who have autism, and due to behavioral needs require intensive individual supports.
Consumer to staff ratio for this program is 3 to 1.
REAL LIFE CHOICES
The individual self directs the services and support that they want to receive based on their
individual budget.
The Real Life Choices program enables the individual to select supports that focus on enhancing daily living
skills, socialization skills, pre-vocational and vocational skills.
The individual, staff, and caseworker develops a plan of support tailored to fit the individual enabling them to
reach measurable outcomes outlined in their self directed plan.
The Real Life Choices program is a non-traditional program that is tailor made to suit the individual in
assisting them to reach individual goals that they set for themselves.
EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
EXTENDED EMPLOYMEMT SUPPORTS
As part of our employment services, Pathways to Independence, Inc. provides Division of
Developmental Disabilities (DDD) consumers and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS)
consumers supports which help them develop pre-vocational and vocational skills. Consumers learn job skills in
a nurturing environment. Extended Employment Supports takes place at Pathways workshops.
Consumers receive work-related training, such as learning how to package and assemble products,
as well as job counseling and job referrals. Consumers also receive supported employment service to include
on-site job coaching; crew work, in which an individual works as part of a peer group; and arrangements in
which consumers can sample different jobs to find a good “fit.”
The goal of the extended employment supports is to provide training to assist the consumers to enhance their
vocational skills thus building their self-esteem enabling them to seek volunteer and or community
employment.
DIVISION OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITION: VOCATIONAL SUPPORTS
At Pathways our services extend to DVRS consumers. Our goal is to enable individuals with disabilities to achieve employment outcomes consistent with their strengths, priorities, needs, abilities and capabilities.
Pre-Vocational Evaluation: Provides a comprehensive, individualize and systematic process in which an
individual, in partnership with a trained Pathways evaluator and DVRS counselor evaluates the consumers work
skills. Consumers learn to identify vocational options, consistent with their abilities, capabilities, preferences
and interest, to develop employment goals and objectives.
Work Adjustment Training: Provides a comprehensive, individualize service that assists consumers seeking
employment to develop or reestablish skills, attitudes, personal characteristics, work behavior and or functional
capacities, to achieve the identified integrated employment outcome.
Community Employment (SE): On going support services provided to an individual in a competitive
integrated environment.
Organizational Services (EE): Provides long-term employment services to consumers, who are presently
unable to work in a competitive employment setting. Individuals are frequently paid less then minimum wage
based on time studies identifying their ability.
SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT SERVICES
The following supports are available to DDD consumers and DVRS consumers in obtaining/maintaining employment.
PRE- PLACEMENT SERVICES
Pathways’ Pre-Placement program will assist you to choose, get and keep community based employment. Our
Employment Specialist will meet with you to identify your career goals, review your work history and develop
an employment plan that suits you best. We will also work with you and potential employers to make sure any
accommodations you may need are covered before you start.
PLACEMENT SERVICES
Once you
accept an offer of employment, an Employment Specialist will help train you with
specific job tasks
and skills you may need to do as your position requires. Our goal is for you to do a great job in your work and
to keep your job as long as possible. We want you to be a successful employee and that is what we are here for!
LONG TERM FOLLOW ALONG SERVICES
As you continue to work and become more confident and independent with your job, we will continue to
provide continuous vocational support as needed. Your Employment Specialist Coach will still be in contact
with you and your employer to make sure that things are going well with you and your job. If issues arise the
employment specialist will provide assistance to you and your employer.
